Urban Pause Space
Urban Pause Space
Interactive Installation Project
“PAUSE” is a public space redesign project inspired by the word “pause” and the meditative practice of Zazen. The project transforms a public park bench into an interactive meditation installation that encourages people to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with themselves within busy urban environments.
When a user sits on the bench, the experience begins with soft lighting and a gentle sound cue. The brightness of the light gradually increases based on how long the user remains seated, creating the feeling of slowly entering a meditative state. After the user leaves, the light fades out over one minute until it completely disappears. By observing the remaining light, the next user can sense how recently the previous person left the space, creating a subtle connection between strangers through shared moments of stillness.
Inspired by Zen mindfulness, the project encourages cultural exchange by bringing elements of meditation into everyday public spaces and making them accessible to people from different backgrounds. Through its interactive lighting system and calming atmosphere, the installation creates small moments of peace and reflection within the fast pace of city life.
